Panic attacks are a form of anxiety disorder that is characterized by impulsive attacks of intense fear and apprehension. Usually, the symptoms of panic attacks include dizziness, confusion, trembling, nausea, and difficulty in breathing. Typically a panic attack peaks up to 10 to 15 minutes and then subsides, however, I have also met some clients complaining that panic attacks for them last for hours! So, cases of panic attacks vary from person to person.
What Causes Panic Attacks?
Generally, the initial symptoms of panic attacks include overwhelming sensations such as emotions, muscle tensions, and physical discomfort. And the sufferer often considers it as the symptoms of stroke or heart attack. But what causes panic attacks? Usually, some frightening or overwhelming experience or any case of prolonged stress becomes the major culprit behind panic attacks. However, there are people for whom panic attacks arise spontaneously. In the latter case, I often try to find out the subconscious thoughts of fear that triggers their panic attack symptoms during my therapy.
Also, some people develop a fear for future panic attacks, and such cases are the worst panic attack cases. And if such a case aggravates, then it can lead to agoraphobia where a person is afraid of leaving their home for a prolonged period of time.
